Story in The Stars Reviews |
Five Dark Fates finished off Kendare Blake’s masterpiece and gave our Queens a ending worthy of the. The queens are at odds. Mirabella has abandoned one sister for another Arsinoe delves deeper into low magic in order to save her best friend from the Legion Curse which has stolen her mind. Katharine just wants Pietyr to wake up and for the dead queens to go away but it doesn’t seem like any of the queens will be getting what they want any time soon. BEWARE OF SPOILERS Kendare did a great job giving us the ending we needed and not the ending we wanted. With so many plots and loose ends that needed to be tied up it is a wonder that she was able to finish everything she needed in one book and not two more. When last with the queens Arsinoe found out the only way to stop the mist was feed it another elemental queen, Queen Mirabella. Kendare is great with characters as each character from this series is so complex filled with individual thoughts and feelings. Even Pietyr who has served and loved his Queen Crowned since the beginning has logical reasons for joining the rebellion and changing sides, nothing is done without reason and every reason is explored within the psyche of these characters. As Fennbirn Island pushes its own unknown agenda all the characters are circling each other for the right to rule and the right to their freedom, but no one is able to really make it off the island unscathed, or even at all. Unless it is Billy because Billy must be protected at all costs. Kendare’s brutal and unforgivable ending is sure to wow fans and critics alike. 5/5 stars, for protecting Billy.
